Thanks for your response, as it caused me to look for verification of something I thought had more foundation in fact than I realized it did. It turns out that the 35 year life expectancy is a misinterpretation of data about violence against trans women throughout the Americas over a 15-month time period.
I have edited the article to reflect that.
The truth is, if not as dramatic, still very dire. In the U.S. alone last year, we mourned the murder of 26 transgender people, almost exclusively women of color. Just as people of color generally face challenges white people do not face (or at least in the same degree), trans women of color face an inordinate amount of adversity.
