Thanks for your response, as it caused me to look for verification of something I thought had more foundation in fact than I realized it did. It turns out that the 35 year life expectancy is a misinterpretation of data about violence against trans women throughout the Americas over a 15-month time period.

I have edited the article to reflect that.

The truth is, if not as dramatic, still very dire. In the U.S. alone last year, we mourned the murder of 26 transgender people, almost exclusively women of color. Just as people of color generally face challenges white people do not face (or at least in the same degree), trans women of color face an inordinate amount of adversity. Here is a piece from HRC that documents both of these assertions:

We are currently up to 19 trans women of color killed this year. I have included an article from HRC about that (about the 19th, who was killed on October 9, 2019) in the edited article.
