Some day, I’m going to write a parody of Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” titled “You’re So Brave.” I first heard this comment from a well-intending coworker when I came out as trans at work. Most cis people don’t see the issue with it, nor do they understand that “I never would have known” is not the compliment they think it is.
